The Kolda Corporation FlashBoom™ is a high performance boom, self-inflatable and ideal as a response to emergencies. Its compact storage reduces to a minimum the storage and transportation cube requirements.

The FlashBoom™ is designed as a boom for fast and emergency response to oil spills. Deployment is simple and completely automatic, and do not require pumps, compressors, blowers, reels, or any other mechanical device for its deployment or retrieval.

FlashBoom™ features a self-inflatable flotation chamber that serves as the freeboard portion of the boom. The flotation chamber is cylindrical, and retains its shape and stability by incorporating a series of semi-rigid, lightweight hoops spaced on equal intervals throughout the length of the boom. Rugged one-way inflation check valves are evenly spaced along the top of the flotation chamber. These valves are attached to the boom by an internal lanyard to prevent loss. Simple tension during deployment causes the boom to expand and automatically self-inflate. Removing the valves from their receptacles completes boom deflation and retrieval quickly and effectively. Note that no tools are required for valve insertion or removal and the operation takes only 2 to 3 seconds.

Airtight internal bulkheads segment the boom on regular intervals, providing a number of fully sealed individual air chambers. This ensures unparalleled reliability and performance in the event of damage or puncture to a boom section.

Hanging from the buoyancy chamber is a flexible skirt that serves as the draft of the boom and prevents oil and debris from passing under the boom. A fully enclosed ballast chain running the full length of the boom keeps the boom positioned vertically in the water, and provides added tensile strength and stability. Field Repair

The FlashBoom™ was designed to allow for easy field repair or replacement of any damaged components. All boom components that could be damaged during use, including valves, valve receptacles, hoops and connectors, are easily repaired or replaced in the field using simple hand tools.
